Terms of Service

Effective date: July 5, 2026

Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using Fable, the iOS application, the Fable App Clip, and the fable-web.pages.dev web experience (together, "the App"). By downloading, installing, opening the App Clip, or joining an event through the web experience, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Fable.

1. Who these Terms are with

The App is made available by Jakub Zitko, an independent solo developer ("we", "us", "our"). Fable is not operated by a company and does not maintain a physical office. For any question about these Terms, contact us at jakub.zitko@icloud.com.

2. Acceptance of terms

By using Fable, you confirm that:

  • You are at least 12 years old and, if under 18, are using Fable with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.
  • You have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement in the jurisdiction where you live.
  • You will use Fable in accordance with these Terms and all applicable laws.

If you do not meet these requirements, you may not use Fable.

3. Description of the service

Fable is a shared, disposable-camera roll for real-world events. Hosts create an event (a "film"), set a reveal time, and share a join code. Guests scan a QR code or open the App Clip and shoot photos into a locked film until the reveal time passes, at which point all photos in the event unlock and become viewable by every guest and the host.

The App includes:

  • A local database of your events, photos, and memberships stored on your device.
  • A synchronized copy of the event's public data (event name, reveal time, guest list, photo thumbnails and full-resolution frames) stored on our Convex backend so guests on other devices can participate.
  • Photo storage in a Cloudflare R2 object store.
  • Optional Sign in with Apple to move your events between your Apple devices.
  • Optional local and push notifications for reveal reminders and late-night moderation.
  • One-time in-app purchases for larger event tiers (Party, Event, Wedding).

Fable is a social software tool. It is not a photo archival service and does not guarantee any specific retention period beyond the tier's stated retention window.

4. Your account and your data

Fable identifies you by a randomly generated guest ID that lives on your device and is written to the App Group container shared between the main app and the App Clip. No email or phone number is required to use Fable.

If you choose to Sign in with Apple, we store your Apple user identifier (an opaque string Apple provides) and, if you shared them, your name and Apple relay email. Signing in lets you resume your events on another Apple device. You can sign out at any time from Settings; signing out clears the local Apple identity.

You are responsible for:

  • Protecting your device with a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID.
  • Keeping iOS up to date.
  • Backing up your device through Apple's normal iOS backup mechanisms, if you want your local data preserved.
  • Sharing your join codes and QR posters only with people you want to invite to an event.

We are not responsible for data loss caused by device failure, iOS updates, deletion of the app, or user error.

5. Acceptable use

You agree that you will not:

  • Use Fable in any way that violates applicable law.
  • Upload photos of minors without consent from a parent or guardian.
  • Upload photos that depict sexual content, violence, harassment, or illegal activity.
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or extract the source code of Fable, except to the limited extent this is expressly permitted by law.
  • Modify or create derivative works of Fable without written permission.
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of Fable, the Convex backend, or the object storage layer.
  • Use automated tools, scrapers, or bots to interact with Fable.
  • Impersonate any other person when contacting us for support.
  • Use Fable in any way that could harm you or others.

We may restrict or terminate your access to Fable (including revoking paid tier features) if we reasonably believe you have violated these rules.

6. Host and guest responsibilities

If you host an event on Fable, you agree that:

  • You are responsible for who you invite and for making sure your guests understand that the film will be revealed to every guest and host at the scheduled reveal time.
  • You have the right to display and share the photos guests upload to your event within the app.
  • You can moderate the Late Night album on paid tiers and can remove media from your event at any time.
  • You will not use Fable to organize an event that violates applicable law.

If you join someone else's event as a guest, you agree that:

  • Photos you upload will become visible to every guest and the host at the reveal time.
  • You grant the host and other guests a limited, personal, non-commercial license to view your uploaded photos within the event.
  • You retain ownership of your photos and can request removal from the host or from us at any time.

7. In-app purchases

Fable offers three one-time, non-consumable in-app purchases through Apple's in-app purchase system: Fable Party, Fable Event, and Fable Wedding. By purchasing a tier, you agree that:

  • Apple handles billing. All payments, taxes, receipts, and refunds are processed by Apple through your Apple ID. We do not receive your payment details.
  • These are one-time purchases, not subscriptions. They do not renew automatically.
  • The purchase upgrades one specific event at a time. If you host multiple events, each event's tier is set independently.
  • Refunds. Refund requests are handled by Apple in line with Apple's policies. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. We are not able to issue refunds directly.
  • Restore purchases. You can restore prior purchases on a new device from the paywall's "Restore purchases" button.

Paid tier features may be added, changed, or removed over time. Where possible we will preserve access to features you paid for on events created before a change.

8. Third-party services

Fable relies on the following third parties to operate:

  • Apple, to distribute the App, process in-app purchases, deliver push notifications (APNs), and provide Sign in with Apple.
  • Convex, our serverless backend provider, which hosts event and photo metadata, plus the HTTP endpoint that serves the App Clip landing page and Apple's site-association file.
  • Cloudflare, which hosts the web PWA on Cloudflare Pages and stores photo bytes in the Cloudflare R2 object store.

Your use of these services is also governed by their own terms, including Apple's Media Services Terms & Conditions, the Convex terms of service, and Cloudflare's terms of service. Fable does not integrate any advertising SDK, analytics SDK, or third-party tracker.

9. Intellectual property

Fable, including its name, logo, source code, designs, and copy, is owned by Jakub Zitko and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Your photos and event data, however, are yours: nothing in these Terms grants us ownership of the photos you upload or the events you host.

The rights we grant you are:

  • A personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use one copy of Fable on iOS devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial use.

The rights you grant us are limited to what is necessary to run the service: we may store, replicate, and transmit your uploaded photos on our behalf so that other guests of your event can view them, and so that you can view them from another device.

All other rights are reserved.

10. Feedback

If you send us feedback, feature requests, or bug reports, you agree that we may use them without any obligation to you. We appreciate feedback and will do our best to respond, but we are not required to.

11. Termination

You may stop using Fable at any time by deleting it from your device. You may also permanently delete your account and every event you host through Settings → Danger → Delete account.

We may suspend or terminate your ability to use Fable (including paid tier features) if you materially breach these Terms, if we are required to do so by law, or if continuing to make Fable available becomes commercially or technically unfeasible.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Intellectual Property, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, and Governing Law) will survive.

12. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Fable is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty arising from course of dealing or usage of trade.

We do not warrant that Fable will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure against every possible attack, or that any specific reveal reminder will fire at a specific moment (for example, if iOS delays background execution). You are responsible for using your own judgment when relying on the App.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will we be liable to you for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, loss of photos, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your use of Fable, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or Fable is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us (through Apple) for Fable in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) five US dollars (USD 5).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. To the extent those laws apply to you, some of the above may not apply, and you may have additional statutory rights.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of your country of residence, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Where mandatory local consumer-protection laws apply to you, they will continue to apply on top of these Terms.

Before bringing any formal claim, please contact us at jakub.zitko@icloud.com so we can try to resolve the issue informally.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date above and publish the new version at fable-web.pages.dev/terms. For material changes we will present an in-app notice on your next launch.
